SNOWBOARDING

The Wy’East Academy snowboard program’s mission is to create life improvement through the commonality of our love for the sport and culture. The focus is to become proficient enough to ride everything from jumps, rails, & transition features, to steep and technical terrain, to take full advantage of deep powder days, and ultimately have complete board control for any situation. From there, the program is designed to teach the marketing & networking skills necessary to either create a pathway for a career in the industry, or to prepare for the next step of higher education with a sustainable passion for snowboarding. We have the ability to ride over 100 days a year with an on-snow season of November through August, coupled with the access to our dry slope facilities year round. Being a part of this program gives you the recipe for success whether you’re coming in with very little experience on a snowboard, or trying to reach the next level of elite performance, as long as you come eager to learn and put in the work. 

GOAL ORIENTED 

Goal setting sessions happen multiple times a year within the snowboard program to help identify the purpose for each student’s time at Wy’East. We believe that creating a pathway of short term goals to achieve the long term goals is a crucial component for the success of everyone on the team. Our coaching staff will work closely to understand the individual goals set for each student by shaping a rolling four-year plan with key performance indicators (KPI’s).  The snowboard program KPI’s are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-Based (SMART Goals), which are transparent to parents, students, coaches, life coaches, and academic staff.  It is this entire 360 Support system that helps ensure student growth and success at all stages.

NETWORKING & INDUSTRY OUTREACH

Our history and connection with High Cascade Snowboard Camp opens countless opportunities for our students to network with brands who are already invested in the community that we continue to build. We use these relationships to expose our students to the ins & outs of the industry through company tours at facilities like Lib Tech & Gnu, Volcom, K2, Ride Snowboards, DC shoes, Quicksilver, Billabong, & Roxy. The goal with our industry outreach is to open doors for our students to build their own relationships with brands they identify with. 

FALL SEMESTER

Fall semester is all about utilizing the incredible facilities we have on campus to keep the team working hard in preparation for winter. Our combined 72,000 sq ft. outdoor and indoor skateparks provide the best environment for cross training while our dry slope rail line & big air jump allow us to stay strapped into our boards and maximize repetition of tricks. Fall is also the perfect time to surf on the Oregon coast, visit colleges in the area, and start to create those industry networking connections to build potential sponsorship & job opportunities for the future.

WINTER SEMESTER

Winter semester is when the majority of our travel opportunities happen to places like Canada, Japan, Europe, Washington, California, Utah, and Colorado depending on the season. Since snowboarding can take you all over the world, we typically plan three to four trips during our winter semester and strive for at least one international experience that will expose the team to different cultures. While the team is on campus, we train on snow 5 days a week at either Timberline, Meadows, or Skibowl. 

SUMMER SEMESTER

Summer semester is the most special offering we provide at Wy’East Mountain Academy for the snowboard program since Mount Hood is where everyone in the industry wants to be when the other resorts shut down. May, June, & July are when the terrain parks at Timberline are at their best, the weather follows suit becoming sunny and warm, and all eyes are on us. Not only is the riding at an all time high, this semester allows for students to enroll in extra classes to lighten their academic load for winter semester, or get ahead and earn their high school diploma early. There truly is no place like Mount Hood in the summer. I invite you to come experience the magic for yourself!

THE MAMMOTH EXPERIENCE

Mammoth is one of the premier destinations for park snowboarding, especially in the spring when you can throw down in one of the most well maintained parks in the US.  We will be riding everything that Mammoth has to offer from full top to bottom laps to work on technique to all the different parks that Mammoth has to offer…
