MOUNTAIN BIKing

Our goal is to make iterative and measurable steps toward the student’s athletic and academic goals.

The Wy’East Academy Mountain Bike (MTB) program is the newest addition to the legendary experience offered here on campus at the base of Mt. Hood. Our program provides gravity racers and slopestyle / freeride riders of all abilities with the means for progression, achieving podiums at races and competitions, amazing travel opportunities, and one of a kind media exposure that is sure to grab the eyes of the industry. We as a program value the student’s education first while helping them chase their individual goals and passions on and off the bike. So, what are you waiting for?!

MEASURABLE PROGRESSION

We take our Wy’East mission statement of “Life improvement through people, place and passion”  seriously. That is why we have set up a program that promotes measurable progression in their riding capabilities, academics and life skills. The first day of athletics we take a baseline assessment of the student’s skills and mindset while also recording their personal goals of where they want to be once the semester ends. These goals have ranged from competing in world cups across Europe, winning Crankworx, or having the most fun possible on your bike while achieving a high school diploma. We help the students stick to their goals throughout the semester in order to teach them perseverance, grit, and how hard work pays off.

INDUSTRY CONNECTION

We are lucky to have an experienced MTB staff that hold knowledge and connections with some of the industry leading pros and companies across gravity racing and slopestyle / freeride. These connections have already paid off for our current student athletes, including a trip to Virgin, Utah with Professional Freeride Athletes, and potential sponsorships for students from companies like Sensus Grips, Commencal USA, Deity Components, Ride Concepts, and more. Our goal is to connect students with these pros and companies to open doors into the industry of MTB.

RIGHT PEOPLE, RIGHT PLACE, RIGHT TIME

Our goal is to provide the best coaching in the right location and facilities at the best time of the season. Each semester is crafted to optimize the season and phase during the annual plan.

FALL SEMESTER

Fall semester here on campus is a great time to wrap up the race/ride season and start to think about your goals for the upcoming season. Fall is when we offer our offseason training camps in Virgin Utah, Bellingham Washington, and other locations across the country that are considered legendary for skills progression. While home on campus, our location offers access to some of the best trails in the Pacific Northwest, as well as our facility on campus which features an outdoor airbag and mulch jump perfect for learning new tricks.

WINTER SEMESTER

Are you ready for your best MTB season yet? Winter at Wy’East is the perfect place to start your intensive training schedule so that you can be the fastest racer to drop in or develop a new bag of tricks come spring and summer. With our indoor facilities featuring a gym, stationary bikes,  skatepark and indoor airbag, and year round riding across our area, you will be ready to prove yourself in the spring. During this timeframe, we travel to Windrock, Tennessee for the first National race of the year as well as Bootleg Canyon, Nevada and more.

SUMMER PROGRAM

If you’ve been to the Pacific Northwest, then you know summer brings amazing weather and great MTB conditions. Wy’East’s summer training program in partnership with Milepost 35 delivers incredible riding on and off campus with multiple lift-served resorts, and miles of public trails with some featuring over 2,000 vertical. Whether you are driven to compete or just want to progress on your bike, our 28 acres of trails, airbags & skateparks are more accessible summer semester than any other time of year. Join us for a session or two of Milepost 35 then we’ll make the short trek north up to Whistler and Coast Gravity Park to ride some of the best lift-serviced terrain in the world.
