Brian Johnson Joins Wy’East Mountain Academy

MT HOOD, OREGON, May 25th 2022 – Wy’East Mountain Academy announced today the addition of Brian Johnson as its Director of Skateboarding, where he will set the vision and direct the day to day skateboard coaching program for the academy.

Over the past 17 years, Brian Johnson has worked closely with youth in The Skateboard Industry. Brian split his time between running skate programs at Woodward and Skate Care and Proper Ride Shop. Brian also spent years competing in both amateur and professional level skate contests.

Johnson will be working hands-on in the development of the skateboard program, recruiting and working with both athletes and coaches. Brian’s outlook on the program revolves around improving skate ability and marketability.

“I love skateboarding and am so incredibly thankful to the people I’ve met and places it has taken me”, says Brian. “ Working for Wy’East Mountain Academy allows me to not only give back to the skate community but help it grow. The academy is a special and unique place where kids get a holistic look at skateboarding. I want to foster a positive environment for our students to set skate/personal goals and accomplish them. I love that campus is amongst the trees and streams at the base of the Mt. Hood, it is surreal to skate in such an incredible place”.

“An application came in with a few of these reference points of prior experience; I have Managed 100-200 skate campers successfully, I have managed 40+ staff at one time, I have been a professional skater, snowboarder, I have taken skaters from baseline to the highest level of competitions”. Then Brian has since come in and been nothing but a positive/humble force on/around campus. His knowledge and experience around child education is best in class and I can’t wait to see what new insights he brings in to make all of our programs even better.
