Session 6 videos with some special guests!!

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

If you didn’t hear or see what happened at Windells Session 6 hold on to your butts, your in for a surprise! We had Del the Funky Homosapien and Bukue One at camp, in BOB, playing a private show for all of the campers and staff!! The stop at camp was part of their “Funk for Free” Tour and a big thanks goes out to Surface and Skullcandy playing an integral role in making it happen! We thought it would be fitting to use some of the music they played at camp in the session videos. Watch and Enjoy!

Camper of the Day: David

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

The days of summer shred are quickly coming to an end at Windells Camp but the private park continues to be hopping with skiers and snowboarders dialing in their tricks before the finale. Coach Brandon Cocard was with his campers lapping the rope tow to get the full rail session going on and that’s where we found 15 year old David from Lake Placid, NY standing out from the crowd and charging the park.

Why did you choose to come to Windells Camp?
David: I’ve been coming for 3 years, you learn a lot and it’s really fun here.

What tricks did you want to work on this session?
David: Rodeos and work on my frontside spins.

In the past 3 years that you’ve been coming here, how have you progressed in your riding?
David: I get more confident when I’m here. I try a lot more cause I want my money’s worth and everything.

Who is your coach and how do you like the coaching?
David: Brandon Cocard. I saw videos of him in the Windells edits and I thought he was pretty sick. He’s helped me with rodeos and better on boxes.

How do you like the park setup on the mountain? What’s your favorite feature?
David: It’s awesome. The big jump.

What has been your favorite on-campus activity?
David: Trampoline and skateboarding.

Congrats to David for stepping it up at Windells the past 3 years!

Sage Kotsenburg’s Birthday Party at camp

Monday, August 9th, 2010

Sage Kotsenburg’s 17th birthday was during Session 6 and he decided to hold a birthday party at camp. Even though it was his bday, Sage is so generous, he decided to give away a new Capita snowboard to a camper. In order to win the snowboard, campers had five minutes to run around camp and find a birthday present for Sage. He didn’t have to keep the present, but it had to be impressive enough that Sage and fellow judges, Forest Bailey, Eric Willett and Zak Hale deemed the gift good enough to put the person giving it, into finals to win the snowboard. During finals, containers of frosting were handed out and the first person to finish all of the frosting won the board. Check out the photos. Happy Birthday Sage!

Camper of the Day: Jon

Monday, August 9th, 2010

The funnest place on earth continues to bring out the fun for session 7 with campers hitting the slopes each day and sessioning our private park at Timberline. Snowboard coaches Moss and Droid have the adult campers this session and within their group we found 27 year old Jon from San Francisco who is back at Windells for his 3rd summer.

How many times have you come to Windells Camp?
Jon: This is my 3rd year coming to Windells.

What makes you keep coming back?
Jon: This is the most fun every summer and it fulfills my dire need for shred during the off-season.

Since you’ve started coming to camp, how have you progressed in your riding?
Jon: I had no park skills when I came to camp the first year, I’ve been riding for 5 or 6 years at that point. None of my friends rode park so neither did I. Every year I’ve progressed more at camp than I do the rest of the season.

What do you want to accomplish this session?
Jon: Front board to fakie, front 3 and back 3.

How do you like the park features this session?
Jon: Park features are awesome, you can go big without taking too much risk. They are really well shaped. They re-groom them at lunch every day. They are awesome, i’m loving it.

Who is your coach and how is the coaching so far?
Jon: Moss and Droid. They are awesome. Mostly I’ve been riding with Droid so far, he’s been giving me a lot of pointers about getting my front boards down, just keeping my board level, how to swing my arms, keep my shoulders, stance everything.

How do you like the adult camp at Windells?
Jon: Adult camp is sick! We have so much fun. After riding, jacuzzi and PBR…what could be better?

What about the other adult campers?
Jon: The other campers are awesome. I always meet great campers every year and hang out with them after camp is over.

What activities are you looking forward to?
Jon: Paintball, sushi night, definitely taco tuesday, possibly clubbing it dirty if we end up doing it.

Camper of the Day: Madison

Saturday, August 7th, 2010

It’s hard to believe that summer is winding down for Windells Camp but we’ve already arrived at Session 7 the last ski & snowboard session of summer 2010. The snow conditions have remained great throughout the summer offering up ample park space for the jumps, rails and pipe. Today we found counselor and coach Jesse with his crew of snowboard campers charging down Palmer chairlift. In his group was 16 years old Madison aka Maddie from Vancouver, Washington who stood out from the pack and rode with us for the afternoon to work on her tricks.

Is it your first time at Windells Camp? How do you like it so far?
Madison: Yeah, it’s so much fun. The atmosphere is so much fun, it’s a blast. I love it.

Why did you choose to come to Windells Camp?
Madison: Who wouldn’t? It’s the best and it’s right in my backyard, course I’m going to come.

What’d you think about the park features today?
Madison: I really liked how there was a lot of easy stuff and harder stuff too. It was a good mix.

Who is your coach and how do you like the coaching so far?
Madison: Jesse is my coach, he’s given me a lot of good pointers for the first day. A lot of kids in my group were helping me too.

What features were you working on today?
Madison: Mostly jumps, trying to get my 180 down.

What tricks do you want to accomplish this session?
Madison: Definitely 360’s.

What do you think of the on-campus activities?
Madison: I’m really excited for the sponsor nights especially the Betty Rides (girls one).

Any shoutouts?
Madison: Hi Harlow and mom and dad!
